Objectives
The challenge of the project is to contribute to the acceleration of territorial and national deployment of a competitive and resilient e biofuel production value chain to achieve France’s carbon neutrality by 2050.
The European Union has set a structuring direction with the ReFuelEU Aviation regulation which requires 2% SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuels) in 2025, 6% in 2030 (including 1.2% e SAF) and, in the longer term, 70% in 2050 (including 35% e SAF), and ReFuelEU Maritime which requires a reduction in carbon intensity of 2% in 2025, 6% in 2030 and 80% in 2050.
This project focuses on:
- developing decision-support tools,
- prospective life cycle analyses of different technology and geographic siting choices for production chains,
- territorial relevance analyses and multi-criteria portfolio prioritization of scenarios,
- proposing the most coherent combinations to deploy considering environmental, economic and societal trade-offs.

Axis 1
Toolbox
- Define a prospective catalogue of technologies and target locations
- Multi-objective optimization: produce a roadmap for public/private stakeholders

Axis 2
France-scale modelling
Analyse sustainability at the national level:
- Prospective and dynamic LCA
- Identification of planetary boundaries
- Absolute environmental sustainability analysis

Axis 3
Territorial modeling
Analyze sustainability at the scale of target territories:
- Map optimal territories for siting industrial e‑biofuel production units
- Territorial-scale LCA
- Analysis of critical territorial interactions
